Here goes my entry for MBP-One pot wonders hosted by Pavani this month.. THe first time i saw the details to this event i was dumbstuck.. iam one gurl who can effortlessly use all the utensils in the kitchen for the simplest of things. And this lady demands for a One pot wonder.. impossible.. i had decided i wud not participate when i saw my altime saviour and favorite and lifeline dish.. well the simplest off all which gets ready in minutes and is such a treat. I know something as blande as a khichdi can be my fav... but it is...
This reminds me of my dearest fren Prachi who taught me this khichdi, split moong was never seen in my house when i was a child but during my college days when this khichdi became a staple diet.. we became a fan of it... i instantly fell in love with it... there were days when i would tell prachi .. aaj kuch halka khane ka mann kar raha hai prachi ... and she would instantly respond.. seedhe bol na .. khichdi khani hai ... and how can i forget her most interesting tadka, i have followed Sia's recipe completely, just that i have increased the quantity of onions as iam an onion fanatic, and cut down on the clove, i try to avoid it whenever possible. Also while adding salt and turmeric i added a tsp of coriander powder, as my khichdi remains incomplete without it. Coming back to the tadka...Once the khichdi is ready to srve, heat some desi ghee in a tadka pan, add some cumin seeds, let it splutter, remove from heat, add 1/2 tsp of chilli powder, 1/2 tsp of dhania powder, and some curry leaves, serve the khichdi hot with this tadka over it, believe me you too will fall in love with it . I had been told that this is a very common tadka at any Baniya or marwari family, and at my punju baniya sasural too :) (I used desi ghee throughout)
As far as the carrot raita is considered, i added some chat masala to it to suit my tastebuds, and while making its tadka i added a pinch of hing.
I am not daring to explain the recipe here because i think Sia is a master in this... this lady got 82 responses(83rd is mine :)) for this simplest recipe.. all credits to her presentation and writeups... hey Sia am a fan of your style buddy. My pics are nowhere near yours maybe they would b somewhere cloe to talk abt in another 2 yrs;) I make this khichdi too frequently, but this carrot raita was an icing on d cake.
